Featured Motorcycle Events
I have set this page aside to highlight a few specific motorcycling events. These are events that I think deserve special attention. This may be because they support a cause that is near and dear to my heart, or because the organizers and riders have done something exceptionally touching in their community.
If you have an event that you would like to see highlighted on this page, feel free to tell me about it. You can submit information about your charity events to me on my contact page here.
Also, feel free to post information about rides or other events directly in the Upcoming Events forum here.

Highlighted Event for April- Officer Down Memorial Ride
Officer Down Memorial Ride- April 27th, Haymarket Va. http://www.officerdownmemorialride.com/
For April, I want to bring special attention to a ride that supports a cause that touches me personally. I have been a police officer for fifteen years. I know several officers who have been injured in the line of duty, and one who was shot and killed while trying to arrest a man who had murdered his girlfriend earlier in the evening.
Being a police officer can be a dangerous job. Too many brave men and women have paid the ultimate sacrifice while trying to keep society safe. The Officer Down Memorial Page www.ODMP.org is a web site that was created to bring attention to these tragedies.
Their mission statement provides a great description of what the organization means to accomplish:
The Officer Down Memorial Page, Inc., (ODMP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring America's fallen law enforcement heroes. More than 20,000 officers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the United States and it is with great honor that the ODMP pays a lasting tribute to each of these officers by preserving their memories within its pages. All who visit the ODMP will be deeply moved by the countless stories of selfless courage and heroism exhibited by officers who lost their lives while serving and protecting the citizens of this great nation.
Why This Ride is Important
The ODMP relies on donations to support its web site and it overall mission. To help the ODMP raise funds, last year the First Annual Officer Down Memorial Ride was organized. My wife and I participated in this ride, and I am really looking forward to joining them again on April 27th.
The ride is organized as a self-guided poker run, with stops along a 65-mile route around the Haymarket, Va. area. The route provides a scenic tour of this beautiful area filled with rolling hills and horse ranches. The event features prizes for the best and worst hands (for the cards gathered on the run), as well as a raffle with tons of great prizes donated by wonderful supporters.
Last year, the Fairfax Co. Police Department Motor Squad did a demonstration, and there were a few antique police cars parked on display. Three live bands performed in the afternoon, while prizes were drawn from the raffle and lunch was served.
All in all, the ODMP event was a great time, and a good amount of money was raised to support a valiant cause. I expect the same this year.
It only costs $25 per person to join the Officer Down Memorial Ride ride. That includes a t-shirt (if you pre-register), one poker hand, and lunch. There is also a raffle for several more prizes. I think we received a few tickets for the raffle as part of the registration last year, and participants could buy extra tickets as well. I’m sure it will be the same this year.
Last year, the organizers also provided breakfast for all the riders. The promotional materials don’t say anything about breakfast this year, but they didn’t say anything about it last year either.
You can find more information about the ride here: http://www.officerdownmemorialride.com/
Come on out and join in on the fun. Enjoy a ride through beautiful, scenic country, and contribute to a great cause.
Hope to see you there!
